# Aircon Size Calculator

Our easy-to-use online BTU load calculator will give you an indication of the aircon size required for your specific needs.

Simply enter the parameters of the room you want the aircon to be installed in. The estimated size/capacity will be calculated in BTUs

#### AC BTU Calculator:

##### What air conditioner size is right for me?
The size of the air conditioner you will need depends on the size of the room that requires cooling or heating. In South Africa, you usually need about 600 BTUs per square meter. The square meterage of your room can be calculated by multiplying the width of the room by the length of the room that needs to be cooled or heated.
##### Are there other heat sources I need to take into account?

When considering a new air conditioner for your home or office, you need to make sure you buy the correct size for your needs. Our calculator takes the following factors into account that could affect the BTU requirements:

• The height of the room ceiling
• How many people usually use the room
• How much sunlight the room is exposed to
• Appliances and electronics that generate heat (this includes screens, computers etc.)
##### How is an inverter aircon different from a non-inverter aircon?

Non-inverter air conditioners run at full speed until the room reaches the desired temperature level. When the room as at the required temperature, the unit will stop. When the room temperature heats up again, the compressor motor will run at full speed again. The repetition of turning on and off uses more energy and creates unwanted noise.

Inverter air conditioners on the other hand regulates the speed of the compressor motor. When the room reaches its optimal temperature, an inverter aircon will lower its motor speed and keep the room at this temperature. This saves a lot of unnecessary energy use.

##### How does a pool heat pump heat up my pool?

A pool heat pump collects heat from the hot air that surrounds the pump. This heat warms up the refrigerant inside the pump and gets compressed to become hotter and it is then run through a heat exchanger that heats up the water and pumps it into your pool.

##### Why is it beneficial to use a pool heat pump?

The difference between a pool heat pump and other conventional electric element heating methods is that a heat pump can warm up your pool quicker and it uses less electricity. A heat pump is by far a more economical pool heating solution.

##### Do I need to buy a pool blanket?

A pool blanket is designed to keep your pool warm once the heat pump has done its job. An uncovered pool loses a lot of heat, so the pool cover works in unison with your heat pump to keep your pool warm when the heat pump is not running. When your pool is not covered, you lose 2 to 3 times more heat when compared to a covered pool. We thus recommend that you consider getting a pool blanket because it will minimize your energy use dramatically, which will benefit you in the long term. We have a variety of pool blankets available in our online store.
